LIKES: Everything to do with soul music I always like hearing and discovering new sounds, the invention of ebay, flicking through records at record fairs.
DISLIKES: People who say there's no more soul to be found...of course there is if you're willing to search for it, people who don't keep their word.
LIKES: Rice Puddings, chicken, chestnuts, beer, the stillness of the night, the wife's Sunday dinners, stroking and playing with to the cat, being happy, nibbling the wife's neck (she hates it...but I love it!), finally finding records you've been after for yonks!
DISLIKES: Grumpy moody people (stay away please..) kidney, marzipan, computer & car problems, arguing, colds, liars, people who phone you hang up...then haven't got the guts to leave their number!, CD's and records that skip!, people who reserve records...then never send for them (naughty!), door sellers, rain.
LIKES: Blue skies & sunny days (that's my motto by the way..) people who make me laugh, holding records in my hands, going home from work, horror films, looking through old family photo's, the smell of the country, having a roof over my head, having parents who loved me, the TV remote!
Dislikes: People who instigate/support Junk/spam/virus email...I mean why does someone bother to deliberately WANT to cause you problems with YOUR computer...they must be the saddest people on earth? It just simply AMAZES me why they go to ALL that trouble? Just get a life and read a comic or something (preferably blindfolded whilst crossing a busy road..) People who steal your Youtube videos (See my Youtube page regarding this)
Finally, may you + me stay forever happy & healthy! From me & the little people.
CD's, VINYL or TAPES?...YOU DECIDE.
CD or VINYL or TAPES? .... Mmm a good question! CD's have took over the world haven't they.. What's better than sticking a cd full of rare gems on and going about other things in the house (like looking for more vinyl on ebay...hee hee..) or playing them in the car etc.. I mean if it was'nt for CDs, we maybe would'nt have heard a whole lot of unearthed UNISSUED tracks in such fine form would we?
CD's are usually great quality too, I mean full credit to these recording studio technicians as the stereo sound is top knotch eh..especially through your 'phones'. Also you simply press a button to 'replay' your favourite track and within seconds, it plays it again and again (such technology thesedays) If it eventually wears out (though that's doubtful) you simply buy the CD again! (unless it gets deleted...enter problem time..)
BUT... really CD's are just better quality TAPES are'nt they? I mean you could always compile your own sounds on a tape could'nt you, except it's a round disc now instead of all that long tape! (god remember when they snapped and you took them all apart to try and repair them....DON'T SNEEZE OR THOSE TINY SCREWS WOULD GO ON THE FLOOR! - PLUS! You must get those 'case' tabs just right before you put the two sides together and get the 'Head' in the correct position and NOT get your fingers on the tape and...OH GOD! JUST BLOODY THROW IT AWAY....great fun but so time consuming).
Yes CD's are here to stay I suppose, but there's nothing better than putting those bits of plastic on your record player is there, what are they called? ...oh yes...Round Black Records (I wondered where I'd got that from...)
1. You look at that 45..
2. You reach down for it..
3. You hold it closer to your face..
4. You study it, looking at all the label details..
5. You take it out of the sleeve (if it's in one!) and check the vinyl..
6. You sometimes (for some reason?) turn it over to look at the other label too..
7. You smell it (admit it you liar...you do sometimes..)
8. You place it on the stereo..
9. You watch it spin round...and round a while..
10. You drop the needle down..
11. Then you hear that bit of noise at the start of the record..
12. You stand back a bit to make sure it's coming out of both speakers..
13. Then in comes the sound...that feeling no other hobby gives you...(ok, ok, other hobbies do, but I'm just trying to make it sound good for you right...)
Sure records skip (jump), but so do CD's and if tapes break, you've lost that portion of sound on that part of the tape which sometimes leads to the tape spilling out the machine eventually once it gets to that point where it snapped!
Plus with vinyl you can get all the details you need (usually) to fulfill your concern with that particular record your holding in your hand (though saying that, CD booklets are very informative usually) PLEASE TAKE NOTE RECORD COMPANYS: We collectors like to know the label/song credits/duration etc..(even the flipside if possible) of 45s and any other useful details. So keep up the good work record companys.
It's like every other collecting hobby, the idea of HAVING that one 45 that YOU'VE been chasing forever and a day! OK, so you may have hundreds more 45s, but it's this NEXT one you've got to have isn't it. You may already have it on CD, but this is on VINYL for goodness sake! It's in YOUR little record box and you can sleep much easier if you've got it on vinyl can't you...correct?
CD's are probably issued in there thousands (yes I know there are limited edition CD's as well before you have a go at me) but some 45s are SO rare/hard to get hold of, you cherish that bit of plastic more so...correct? Do you feel the same about a CD?...I think not.
So CD's ARE great in there own right, but I'm afraid vinyl still rules (and always will to a collector)...and if you don't believe me, ask any long standing collector if they do all those 13 points when they have a new 45! ......the thing's that make us happy eh...
What do you prefer? ...answers on the back of a fiver please...
